Street Fighter V – PS4

A cornerstone of modern competitive fighting games — Street Fighter V rebuilt the legendary franchise for the esports era, evolving substantially through years of post-launch support.

Product Description

Street Fighter V was developed and published by Capcom, originally releasing in February 2016. It's the fifth mainline entry in the Street Fighter series, one of the most historically significant franchises in the fighting game genre, and was notable for launching with a comparatively sparse single-player content offering, focusing instead heavily on its competitive multiplayer and esports ambitions from day one.

This approach drew significant criticism at launch, with reviewers and fans noting a thin roster and limited game modes compared to expectations for a mainline numbered entry, alongside notable server stability issues in its early online infrastructure. However, Capcom committed to years of substantial post-launch support, progressively adding characters, stages, story content (including an eventual "Arcade Mode" and expanded "A Shadow Falls" story content), and significant gameplay rebalancing across multiple major content seasons, meaningfully improving the game's overall package well beyond its initial release state.

By the time of its final major updates, Street Fighter V was generally regarded as having become a strong, content-rich fighting game with one of the larger rosters in series history, even though its reputation is still shaped in part by its rocky launch — a frequently cited case study in how substantial post-launch support can reshape a game's overall legacy.
