Key specs at a glance

Figures come from SanDisk's data sheet and retailers. Ask our team to confirm the exact model and the warranty that applies in Kenya.

This is an internal drive

The Optimus 5100 is an internal M.2 drive. It plugs into an M.2 slot inside a laptop or desktop, so it isn't a plug-and-play external drive. To use it externally, you need an M.2 enclosure. Before buying, check that your device has a free M.2 2280 slot and supports NVMe. Tell us your laptop or motherboard model and we'll confirm.

Why choose it

Moving from a hard drive or an older SATA SSD to a fast NVMe drive makes a computer start, load and copy files much faster. The Optimus 5100 is SanDisk's value PCIe 4.0 option, aimed at creators and everyday users who want speed without paying for the fastest drives.

An honest note on QLC

QLC flash stores more data per cell, which keeps the price down. The trade-off is that sustained heavy writing can be slower than on pricier TLC drives once the cache fills. For typical use, such as work, study, photos and gaming, it performs very well. For constant heavy video writing, a TLC drive may suit better.

Who it's for

Laptop and desktop owners upgrading storage on a sensible budget.

Creators and students who want fast loading.

Builders looking for a PCIe 4.0 drive at a mid-range price.

Speeds depend on your computer

The full 7,100 MB/s needs a PCIe 4.0 slot. In an older PCIe 3.0 slot, the drive still works, at lower speeds.
