The SanDisk microSD Express card is a new, much faster type of microSD card, and it's the kind of card the Nintendo Switch 2 requires for extra storage. Check your console first

The Nintendo Switch 2 only works with microSD Express cards. An ordinary microSD card from an older Switch will not work in it. If you have an original Nintendo Switch, you don't need this card; a standard microSD card such as the Extreme or Extreme PRO in our range will do and costs much less.

How much does 256GB hold

A listing for this card estimates about five large 50GB games, or roughly 24,000 photos of 10MB each. Your own mix of games, photos and video will differ.

Why microSD Express is different

Standard microSD cards use a UHS-I connection. microSD Express adds a faster connection, similar to the one used by SSDs. SanDisk says it reads up to 4.4 times faster than its fastest UHS-I microSD cards. That matters for loading games and moving big files. The full speeds need a device that supports microSD Express. In older devices, the card still works, at normal UHS-I speeds.

microSD Express vs Extreme PRO

The Extreme PRO, also in our range, is SanDisk's fastest standard microSD, at up to 200 MB/s. It works in almost all devices but not the Switch 2. Choose by your device.
