Shadow of the Colossus – PS4

A minimalist, deeply emotional masterpiece — this remake rebuilds one of gaming's most acclaimed and influential titles from the ground up.

Product Description

The original Shadow of the Colossus was developed by Japan Studio and Team Ico, led by director Fumito Ueda, releasing on PS2 in 2005 to widespread critical acclaim. This PS4 release is a full remake developed by Bluepoint Games (later known for the Demon's Souls PS5 remake) and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, releasing in February 2018, rebuilding the game's visuals and technical performance from scratch while preserving its original design exactly.

The game follows Wander, a young man who enters a forbidden land to revive a girl named Mono, striking a bargain with a mysterious entity that requires him to hunt and destroy sixteen massive, ancient Colossi scattered across the land. Each Colossus functions as a self-contained puzzle-boss, requiring careful observation of its behavior and environment to find climbable weak points, with no other enemies, dungeons, or traditional combat encounters in the entire game — a radically minimalist design that was highly unusual, and influential, for its time.

Both the original and this remake received near-universal critical acclaim, frequently appearing on lists of the greatest games ever made, with particular praise for its emotional storytelling (told almost entirely through environmental and mechanical means rather than dialogue), its haunting, sparse world design, and the technical scale of Bluepoint's remake work in particular.
