HP 255R G10 Laptop (Ryzen 7 7735U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 15.6")

Genuine HP | Brand New | Model C68W9ET | 15.6-Inch Full HD Business Laptop with AMD Ryzen 7

Looking for the HP 255R G10 price in Kenya, a Ryzen 7 laptop in Nairobi, or an affordable 15.6-inch laptop with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD? The HP 255R G10 is a brand-new business-ready laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 7735U processor, fast DDR5 memory and a Full HD screen, available from Mega Store Kenya with delivery across Kenya. It's one of the best-value HP business laptops in Nairobi for office work, study, small businesses and everyday computing. People also search for it as an HP 255 G10 Ryzen 7, an HP laptop with a number pad, a laptop for accountants and office staff, or an affordable laptop for university students.

This guide explains the laptop in plain language: what the Ryzen 7 7735U can do, what the 16 GB of DDR5 memory and 512 GB NVMe storage mean for daily use, how the screen performs, how long the battery lasts, and where the laptop is limited, so you can decide with confidence. If you'd like to talk it through, message us on WhatsApp.

The short verdict

The HP 255R G10 is a sensible, no-nonsense workhorse. For a small laptop budget, it gives you an eight-core processor, 16 GB of fast memory and 512 GB of NVMe storage, which is more than most office and study jobs need. It has a full-size keyboard with a number pad, a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, a privacy shutter on the webcam, and the durability testing HP applies to its business laptops. The compromises are honest ones: the screen is basic in brightness and colour, the battery is small, and the build is plain. If you want a dependable laptop for documents, spreadsheets, browsing, video calls and light creative work at a sensible price, it's a strong choice.

Who this laptop is for

It suits you if:

• You work in an office and live in documents, spreadsheets, email, video meetings and web apps.
• You're an accountant, bookkeeper, administrator, teacher, or run a small business and need a reliable laptop with a number pad.
• You're a university or college student who needs a laptop that handles coursework, research and coding basics.
• You want 16 GB of memory without paying for a premium business model.
• You manage a small team and need dependable laptops that are easy to support.

Look elsewhere if:

• You play demanding games or do heavy video editing and 3D work. See the HP Victus and OMEN MAX gaming laptops in our range.
• You need a very light laptop for daily travel. At about 1.66 kg, the 255R is portable but not ultra-light, and a 14-inch ProBook or ThinkPad is lighter.
• You need long battery life. The battery is a modest 41 Wh.
• You need a bright, colour-accurate screen for design or photography.

Specifications in plain English

These figures come from HP and retailer listings of the 255R G10. Details such as the Windows edition and colour can vary by unit, so ask us to confirm the one you order.

The processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7735U explained

The Ryzen 7 7735U is an eight-core, sixteen-thread processor from AMD's Ryzen 7000 U-series, designed for thin and efficient laptops. In plain terms:

Eight cores and sixteen threads. More cores let the laptop do more at once. You can have a spreadsheet, a video call, a browser with a dozen tabs and a file download running together without the laptop slowing down. For office use, this is comfortably more than you need.

Speed. It runs at 2.7 GHz as a base and boosts up to about 4.7 GHz when a task needs a burst of speed, such as opening a large file or exporting a document.

Efficiency. "U" processors are designed to use less power than the "H" processors in gaming laptops. That means less heat, a quiet fan, and better use of a small battery.

Built-in graphics. The Radeon 680M graphics inside the processor are among the strongest integrated graphics in this class. They handle video playback, presentations, photo editing and light creative work smoothly. They can also run some older or less demanding games at low settings, though this is not a gaming laptop.

No dedicated AI engine. Unlike the newer Intel Core Ultra processors, the Ryzen 7 7735U doesn't have a built-in neural processing unit (NPU). That means it doesn't meet the requirements for Microsoft's "Copilot+ PC" features. For normal office use, this makes no practical difference, but it's good to know if AI features matter to you.

Memory: 16 GB of DDR5

The laptop has 16 GB of DDR5 memory running at 4800 MHz. Here's why that's a good amount:

• Browsing and office apps. Modern browsers use a lot of memory. With 16 GB, you can keep many tabs, a spreadsheet, a document and a video call open without slowdowns.
• Multitasking. More memory means Windows doesn't have to swap data to the SSD, which keeps the laptop responsive.
• Future-proofing. Software gets hungrier over time, and 16 GB will stay comfortable for years of office use.
• DDR5. This is faster and more efficient than the older DDR4 memory found in many budget laptops.

The laptop has two memory slots, so it can be upgraded. Retailer listings differ on the maximum supported, so ask us before you buy any upgrade.

Storage: 512 GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe

An NVMe SSD is far faster than a hard drive or an older SATA SSD. In daily use, that means Windows starts in seconds, programs open quickly, and large files copy fast.

512 GB is plenty for Windows, Office, your documents and a library of photos. It will fill up if you store lots of video, large datasets or many games. Good options if you need more:

• Replace the SSD with a larger one.
• Use a fast external SSD, such as the SanDisk Extreme or Extreme PRO portable SSDs in our range.
• Use cloud storage for documents and a portable hard drive from our range for backups.

The display: 15.6-inch Full HD IPS

The screen is a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS panel with an anti-glare finish and narrow bezels.

Good points.

• Full HD is sharp enough for documents, spreadsheets and web pages.
• IPS gives wide viewing angles, so the screen is readable from the side, which is handy when sharing it with a colleague.
• The anti-glare finish cuts down reflections in bright offices.

To know. HP lists the screen at about 250 nits and 45% NTSC colour coverage. In plain terms, it's a standard business screen: fine for office work, but dimmer and less colourful than a premium laptop screen. It can look dull in bright sunlight or a very bright room. If you do photo editing, design or video work, plan to use an external monitor. We stock Dell, Lenovo and HP monitors that suit that.

Keyboard, number pad and webcam

The 15.6-inch body has room for a full-size keyboard with a number pad, which is a real advantage for anyone who enters numbers all day: accountants, bookkeepers, cashiers, data-entry staff and students doing statistics. The 15.6-inch size is also comfortable to type on for long periods.

The 720p HD webcam is fine for video calls, and it has a privacy shutter, a physical cover you can slide over the lens when you're not on a call. That's a simple, reassuring security feature, especially for business users.

Battery and charger

The laptop has a 41 Wh battery and comes with a small 45 W charger. A small battery is the trade-off for a thin, light laptop at this price. For typical office use, expect a few hours of work before you need to plug in, depending on screen brightness and what you're doing.

Practical tips to make the battery last longer:

• Lower the screen brightness.
• Use Windows' battery saver mode when you're unplugged.
• Close background apps and extra browser tabs.
• Carry the compact charger, and charge during breaks.

For all-day use away from a socket, a laptop with a bigger battery, or a power bank with USB-C charging from our Anker range, helps.

Ports and connectivity

• USB-C (5 Gbps): for data and accessories.
• Two USB-A ports (5 Gbps): for a mouse, flash drive or printer.
• HDMI: connect a projector, TV or external monitor. Our Epson and LG projectors in our range work well with it.
• Headphone and microphone jack: for a headset.
• Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4: fast, modern wireless connections for the office or home.

Note that it doesn't have an Ethernet port or an SD card slot. If you need wired Ethernet or an SD card reader, an Anker USB-C hub from our range adds them for a small cost.

Security and durability

HP builds the 255R G10 as a business laptop, and it comes with features that suit that role:

• MIL-STD testing. HP says the laptop undergoes testing to US military standards for things such as drops, vibration and temperature, to help it survive everyday knocks.
• Enhanced sign-in security. HP lists enhanced login security on the 255R.
• Webcam privacy shutter. A physical cover for the camera.
• Windows 11 security. Windows 11 includes strong built-in protection, and the Pro edition adds business features such as BitLocker drive encryption. Ask us which edition the unit has.

For a small business, add a good antivirus. We stock Kaspersky licences for this purpose.

Everyday performance: what to expect

Office work: documents, spreadsheets, presentations and email run smoothly, even with many windows open.

Browsing and video calls: many tabs and video meetings in Teams, Zoom or Google Meet run without trouble.

Study and coding: coding tools, statistics software and research tools run well. Virtual machines work, within the 16 GB of memory.

Photo editing and light creative work: the processor and Radeon 680M handle photo editing, simple video edits and design in apps such as Canva comfortably.

Streaming and entertainment: Full HD video plays smoothly, and the stereo speakers are fine for casual use.

Light gaming: older and less demanding games run at low settings, but this isn't a gaming laptop.

Windows 11 Home or Pro: which do you need?

The 255R is sold with either Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro, depending on the unit. They look and work the same day to day, but Pro adds features that matter in business.

• BitLocker encryption protects the data on the drive if the laptop is lost or stolen. For anyone who keeps client or financial data on a laptop, this is valuable.
• Joining a company domain and being managed by an IT administrator is a Pro feature.
• Remote Desktop lets you connect to the laptop from another computer, which helps for remote support.
• Home is enough for students, households and sole traders who don't need these features.

HP itself recommends Windows 11 Pro for business use. If you handle sensitive information, ask us for a unit with Pro, or about upgrading the licence.

Buying for a small team: a quick guide

If you're equipping an office with five, ten or twenty laptops, the 255R G10 is a sensible, consistent choice. A few tips make a fleet easier to run.

1. Standardise the model. Identical laptops mean one set of drivers, one charger type and easy swaps if one fails.
2. Buy a spare charger or two. The 45 W charger is small, and spares reduce downtime.
3. Plan for protection. A UPS or surge protector at each desk, and padded sleeves for anyone who carries a laptop.
4. Add antivirus from day one. We stock Kaspersky licences in several user sizes.
5. Set up backups. Cloud storage for documents and a portable drive from our range for periodic full backups.
6. Record serial numbers. Keep a list of serial numbers, warranty dates and who has which laptop.
7. Ask about bulk arrangements. Message us on WhatsApp if you're buying several, and we'll advise on delivery and configuration.

A typical workday on the HP 255R

It helps to picture the laptop in real use. An accountant starts the day by opening a large spreadsheet, an accounting package and email, with a browser full of tabs for bank sites and tax portals. The number pad speeds up data entry. Mid-morning, a video call runs alongside the spreadsheet, and the 16 GB of memory keeps everything smooth. At lunch, the laptop is unplugged and carried to a meeting room, where it connects to a projector over HDMI. In the afternoon, the accountant exports reports to PDF, prints, and backs up to cloud storage. At the end of the day, the 45 W charger goes back in the bag.

Nothing here strains an eight-core Ryzen 7 with 16 GB of memory, which is exactly the point. The laptop stays quiet, doesn't run hot, and doesn't slow down. That's the real value of a business laptop like this one: it does ordinary work reliably, day after day.

Using a laptop in Kenya

Power protection. Surges and outages can damage a charger and motherboard. A surge protector or voltage guard blocks spikes, and a UPS gives you time to save work and shut down safely. We stock APC, Mecer and Unomat UPS units. Because the 255R uses only a small 45 W charger, even a small UPS can keep it going.

Security. Don't leave a laptop visible in a vehicle. A padded bag helps, and Windows' Find My Device feature can help you locate it. If you use the laptop for business, set a strong sign-in PIN.

Heat and dust. Keep the vents clear and use the laptop on a hard surface when you can.

Warranty. Ask us for the warranty that applies to the unit you order, and keep the receipt and box.

Windows edition and region. Ask us to confirm whether the unit has Windows 11 Home or Pro, and the keyboard layout.

First-day setup checklist

1. Check the box: laptop, 45 W charger and paperwork.
2. Inspect the body, screen and ports.
3. Complete Windows 11 setup with your own account.
4. Run Windows Update until it's finished.
5. Install your software and a good antivirus.
6. Set a sign-in PIN, and turn on Find My Device.
7. Set up cloud or external backups.
8. Adjust brightness and battery settings.
9. If you're a business user, set up BitLocker if you have Windows Pro.

Looking after it

• Use a padded sleeve or bag when carrying it.
• Keep the vents clear, and clean them now and then.
• Update Windows and drivers regularly.
• Keep liquids away from the keyboard.
• Use the original charger or an official replacement.
• Don't leave it in a hot car.

How it compares with other options in our range

Against the ProBook 440 G11 and 460 G11: the ProBooks have newer Intel Core Ultra processors, taller 16:10 screens and more business features, and they cost more. The 255R gives you much of the everyday capability at a lower price.

Against the HP 15 with the Core i7 and 8 GB of memory: the 255R has twice the memory, and faster DDR5. For multitasking, that's a real advantage.

Against a gaming laptop: the 255R is lighter and cheaper but isn't built for demanding games.
