Resident Evil Revelations – PS4

A tense, ship-bound horror chapter — Resident Evil Revelations bridges the story between Resident Evil 4 and 5, originally designed as a handheld title before its console ports.

Product Description

Resident Evil Revelations was originally developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, later receiving enhanced ports to home consoles (including this PS4 release) in 2013. Chronologically, it's set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, following series veterans Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield investigating a bioterrorism incident aboard a derelict ocean liner, the Queen Zenobia.

The game was specifically designed to lean back toward the series' survival horror roots after the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5, using the claustrophobic, corridor-heavy setting of a ship to create sustained tension, alongside an episodic structure (originally built around the 3DS's portable play sessions) that breaks the story into discrete chapters. The home console ports enhanced the original's visuals and added additional content, including new playable modes.

Reception was generally positive, particularly praised for successfully recapturing tension and atmosphere that many felt had been missing since the earlier numbered entries, though some criticized certain combat encounters and a plot that can feel disjointed due to its episodic origins.

If you enjoy Revelations' tense, corridor-based horror setting, you'll also want to try Resident Evil 7: Biohazard for another entry that deliberately returned to horror-focused pacing; Alien: Isolation for another confined, ship/station-based horror setting; and Dead Space-style titles for a comparable claustrophobic, sci-fi-horror atmosphere.
