Shadow of the Tomb Raider – PS4

The trilogy's dramatic conclusion — Shadow of the Tomb Raider completes Lara Croft's origin story with the series' most stealth- and puzzle-focused entry yet.

Product Description

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was developed by Eidos-Montréal (taking over primary development duties from series regular Crystal Dynamics, who served in a supporting role) and published by Square Enix, releasing in September 2018. It's the third and concluding chapter in the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy that began with 2013's Tomb Raider and continued through 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider, completing Lara Croft's transformation from a shipwrecked survivor into the confident, capable tomb raider of the original 1996 character's later depictions.

The story follows Lara to Central and South America as she races against the paramilitary organization Trinity to prevent a Mayan apocalypse she inadvertently sets into motion. Compared to its predecessors, this entry places a heavier emphasis on stealth mechanics (including expanded camouflage and takedown options) and its signature tomb-puzzle content, with the developers explicitly aiming to deliver the largest and most complex optional tombs in the rebooted trilogy, while somewhat de-emphasizing the more combat-heavy, action-set-piece pacing of Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Critical reception was generally positive, with particular praise for the quality and scale of its optional tomb puzzles and improved stealth systems, though some reviewers felt the shift away from action set-pieces and a comparatively less memorable central antagonist made it a slightly less impactful conclusion than some had hoped for the trilogy's finale.
