Sonic Origins – PS4

A definitive classic Sonic collection — Sonic Origins bundles remastered versions of the original Genesis-era platformers with modernized visuals and new content.

Product Description

Sonic Origins was developed by Sega and its internal Sonic Team, in collaboration with Simon "Stealth" Thomley (known for prior Sonic modding and remaster work), and published by Sega, releasing in June 2022. It bundles remastered versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, rebuilding these classic Genesis and Sega CD-era platformers with widescreen support, updated visual options, and quality-of-life features not present in the originals.

Beyond the core remastered games, Sonic Origins adds new content including an Anniversary Mode with more accessible, forgiving gameplay adjustments, a Classic Mode more faithful to the original games' presentation, and additional bonus content such as a mission mode and museum area featuring series history and artwork. This release followed years of prior remaster efforts (including the well-regarded Sonic Mania, a separate, newly-built classic-style Sonic game rather than a remaster of these specific titles).

Reception was generally positive for the quality of the core remastered games and accessibility improvements, though some criticism focused on the monetization structure at launch (certain bonus content was initially locked behind pre-order or paid DLC tiers) and some technical rough edges reported around release.
