WD 1TB Portable Hard Drive

Genuine WD | Portable External Hard Drive (HDD) | 1TB

The WD portable hard drive is a pocket-sized external drive from Western Digital, one of the best-known names in storage, for backing up photos, documents and media. Available in Kenya from Mega Store Kenya as an authentic WD product, this page is for shoppers searching "WD 1TB external hard drive Kenya," "1TB portable hard drive Nairobi," "backup drive for laptop Kenya," or "cheap external storage Kenya."

Key specs at a glance

Figures come from retailer listings of WD's My Passport range. WD also sells an Elements range, which is simpler and lacks the My Passport's encryption software. Your supplier list gives only the brand and capacity, so ask our team to confirm the exact model, colour and warranty of the unit you order.

This is a hard drive, not an SSD

It's worth being clear about this. A portable hard drive (HDD) stores data on spinning disks. Compared with a portable SSD, it is slower, heavier, noisier in use and more sensitive to knocks while running, but it gives you far more storage for the money. For backups, archives and large media libraries, that trade-off is worth it. For speed and toughness, see the SanDisk portable SSDs in our range.

Is 1TB the right size for you?

A 1TB drive holds roughly a few hundred thousand phone photos or a very large document collection, which is plenty for a student or a single laptop's backup.

Who it's for

Students backing up coursework and photos.

Anyone who wants a simple, cheap backup drive.

Office workers who move files between computers.

How it compares

The 2TB and 4TB versions, also in our range, give more room for a little more money per terabyte. Pick 1TB if your files fit and you want the lowest price.

Looking after a hard drive

• Avoid moving or knocking it while it's reading or writing.
• Always eject it safely before unplugging.
• For important files, keep a second copy, because any drive can fail.
