The Last of Us Part II – PS5

A bold, divisive, and technically extraordinary sequel — The Last of Us Part II expands the story with a darker, more morally complex exploration of cyclical violence.

Product Description

The Last of Us Part II was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, originally releasing in June 2020, with a PS5-specific "Remastered" edition following in January 2024, adding a roguelike survival mode called "No Return," enhanced visuals, and developer commentary. Set several years after the original game, it follows Ellie, now a young adult, on a journey driven by a violent act that sets in motion a story explicitly built around themes of revenge, cyclical violence, and empathy.

Technically, the game was widely praised as a landmark achievement for its hardware generation. Narratively, it took considerable creative risks compared to the original, including character and plot decisions that proved intensely divisive within its audience, generating one of the more significant "review bombing" controversies in recent gaming history alongside substantial critical-press acclaim and numerous Game of the Year awards.
