Sonic Mania Plus – PS4

Widely considered the best modern Sonic game — Sonic Mania Plus delivers newly built, meticulously crafted classic-style 2D platforming from a team of celebrated Sonic fan-developers.

Product Description

Sonic Mania was developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games — a team largely drawn from the Sonic modding and fan-remaster community, working in close collaboration with Sega and Sonic Team — and published by Sega, originally releasing in August 2017, with the expanded Sonic Mania Plus edition following in July 2018 adding two new playable characters, a new Encore Mode with remixed level layouts, and physical release features like a collector's artbook and reversible cover in some editions.

Rather than a remaster of existing games, Sonic Mania is an entirely new game built in the visual and mechanical style of the original Genesis-era Sonic titles, featuring a mix of reimagined classic zones and brand-new original levels, all designed with an exceptional attention to the physics, level-design philosophy, and pixel-art aesthetic that defined the series' most beloved era. It's frequently cited by both critics and longtime fans as the best modern realization of "classic Sonic" gameplay, succeeding where several other attempts at reviving that specific style had fallen short.

Reception was overwhelmingly positive, with Sonic Mania widely regarded as a high point not just for the Sonic franchise's recent history but for 2D platformers generally in its release year, praised for its meticulous game feel, clever level design callbacks, and genuine passion evident throughout its construction.
