Why readers like the Paperwhite
An e-ink screen reads like paper. It doesn't glare in sunlight, doesn't tire your eyes the way a phone or tablet can, and the adjustable front light lets you read in bed without a lamp. Battery life is measured in weeks, not hours. Reviewers call the 2024 Paperwhite a big upgrade for anyone moving from a much older Kindle, and not worth upgrading from the 2021 model.
Before you buy: your books and your account
A Kindle works best with an Amazon account. Whether you can buy books from the Kindle Store depends on your country and account settings, so ask us what works in Kenya before you buy. You can also read your own files, such as PDFs, by sending them to the Kindle. Ask our team how to set that up.
Who it's for
Avid readers who want a screen that's easy on the eyes.
Students reading PDFs and textbooks, though a small screen has limits for large PDFs.
Travellers who want a whole library in a slim device.
Paperwhite 16GB vs 32GB vs Kindle 11th gen
The 32GB version, also in our range, has twice the storage. The entry-level Kindle (11th generation), also in our range, has a smaller 6-inch screen and costs less. For most readers, 16GB is plenty because books take very little room.
