Assassin's Creed Mirage – PS5

A return to the series' stealth roots — Assassin's Creed Mirage follows a young Basim through 9th-century Baghdad in a tighter, more focused Assassin's Creed experience.

Product Description

Assassin's Creed Mirage was developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft, releasing in October 2023. After years of massive RPG-scale entries (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla), Mirage was explicitly designed as a smaller-scoped return to the franchise's original stealth-and-parkour foundations, set in a richly recreated Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age.

You play as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a cunning street thief who rises to join the Hidden Ones (the precursor organization to the Assassin Brotherhood), a character first introduced in Assassin's Creed Valhalla — Mirage serves as a prequel exploring his origin story. Compared to its immediate predecessors, the game features a more compact, hand-crafted map, greater emphasis on stealth tools and social stealth mechanics, and a shorter overall campaign length, deliberately positioned by Ubisoft as a nostalgic callback to the earliest entries in the series.

Critical reception was generally positive, with many reviewers and longtime fans welcoming the intentional scope reduction and renewed stealth focus as a refreshing change of pace, though some noted the map and mission variety, while improved over prior entries, still didn't fully match the tightest classic-era Assassin's Creed level design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Mirage connected to Assassin's Creed Valhalla?

A: Yes, Basim is a character introduced in Valhalla, and Mirage tells his origin story as a prequel.

Q: Is Mirage shorter than recent AC games?

A: Yes, intentionally so — it's designed as a more compact, roughly 15-20 hour experience compared to the 50-100+ hour RPG trilogy.

Q: Does it use the RPG systems from Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla?

A: No, it deliberately moves away from those RPG mechanics back toward the series' classic action-adventure structure.
