Ghostwire: Tokyo – PS5

A supernatural adventure through an emptied Tokyo — Ghostwire: Tokyo delivers atmospheric, spirit-battling combat inspired by Japanese folklore.

Product Description

Ghostwire: Tokyo was developed by Tango Gameworks (the studio behind The Evil Within series, led by Shinji Mikami in a supervisory capacity) and published by Bethesda Softworks, releasing as a PS5 timed-console-exclusive in March 2022. It follows Akito, who becomes possessed by a spirit detective named KK after most of Tokyo's population mysteriously vanishes, leaving the city haunted by supernatural Yōkai spirits drawn from Japanese folklore.

The game blends first-person, elemental combat (using hand gestures to channel spectral energy rather than traditional firearms) with an atmospheric open-world exploration of a beautifully rendered, rain-soaked, empty Tokyo, filled with side content drawing on genuine Japanese urban legends and mythology. Reception was generally positive, particularly praised for its distinctive setting, atmosphere, and visual presentation, while some critics noted the open-world side-activity structure followed fairly familiar conventions despite the strength of its premise.
